The Sphinx Educational Fund, Inc. (SEF) and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) are proud to present the 20th Anniversary SEF Thurgood Marshall College Fund Brunch to the Phoenix community. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall was a shining example of the commitment to leadership, excellence and compassion for which both organizations stand and now host this annual fundraising and recognition event.
We will continue our tradition of presenting the Thurgood Marshall Award of Merit to an Arizonan who has demonstrated outstanding commitments to making Phoenix, the State of Arizona, and the world better.
This year’s recipient is Dr. Camilla Westenberg. We recognize this dedicated individual whose life exemplifies the principles of justice, equality and excellence that remain fundamental tenets of Justice Marshall's legacy. Dr. Westenberg is Professor Emeritus of Phoenix College where she impacted thousands of young minds and growing spirits as they sought their paths of fulfillment. She is a member of numerous organizations and continues to be impactful and influential in Arizona and nationally.
The Honorable Michael T. Bivens will serve as the keynote speaker at this year's brunch. As the managing partner of his own law firm, Michael has made significant contributions to the legal landscape. Additionally, he has held the prestigious position of Whitehall City Attorney, making history as the First African American Elected Official in the City of Whitehall. On December 31, 2023, Michael achieved another milestone by being sworn in as the First African American Mayor of Whitehall. Bivens is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
