Join us for our FREE 2nd Line Workshop with the Windy City Ramblers.
Traditionally, a 2nd (also Second) line is a cultural parade organized by Social Aid, and Pleasure Clubs in New Orleans, Louisiana. The first line is the parade's main section, which consists of the social aid and pleasure club, and the brass band. The Second Line consists of people who follow the brass band to enjoy the music and dance. Second Lining is a dance form where participants dance and walk along the S.A.P.C. in an African-based, free-form style.
Mario Abney and the Windy City Ramblers will teach participants how to walk, footwork, and buckjump, while learning the history and importance of brass band music. No experience required!
For the winter session, 2nd Line workshops are on the 2nd Thursday of the month, February 8 and March 14, from 6:30-8:00pm at Dorchester Arts + Housing Collaborative: 1456 E 70th St, Chicago, IL 60637.
