A project that started in lockdown exploring the recollections of Playing Mas /Carnival and the traditional carnival characters unique to the Islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago and Antigua.
A historical and educational documentary made with the aim of cementing the oral history of Traditional Mas.
The documentary has 2 segments, the 1st comprising of 5 interviews from 1st and 2nd generations of the Windrush Era. The eldest contributor at the time of production was 90 years young!
The 2nd segment consists of 2 intergenerational interviews of experts in the field of Mas making and artistic direction, Carnival media and Caribbean Island Promotion.
Held together with musical steel pan renditions by Pan Vibrations.
A must see documentary steeped in historical recollections.
This documentary is in memory of Mrs Byer who sadly transitioned before its completion and her family who allowed for her interview to remain.
