Event Summary

Who are we?

We are the men of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fratnerity Inc., the oldest intercollegiate Black fraternity, founded on principles of Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind. Our Mission is to develop leaders and promote brotherhood and academic excellence while providing service and advocacy to our communities. One of our National Programs includes the “Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College” program.Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has been present in the Iowa City community since 1922. In recent years, our chapter has had Brothers engaged in education through administration, teaching (middle school through post-doc), coaching, ACT Prep courses, College Tours, mentorship at the University of Iowa, and collaborations with United Action for Youth and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Our experience leaves us well-suited to cultivate a tradition of uplift, celebration, and excellence.

The 20 Under Twenty is an awards ceremony hosted by our local chapter that seeks to highlight both premier students and unsung heroes of our local schools. It recognizes 20 local students who are twenty years old or younger across five categories: Leadership, Academic Excellence, Service and Activism, Innovation, and Arts and Culture. Our vision is to create a tradition that tells the story “Excellence Lives Here.”
