Event Overview:
The Sweet Auburn Historic District is proud to participate in the nationwide "Shop Small/Small Business Saturday" on November 30, 2024. This event, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, will highlight and support small businesses in one of the nation's most historically rich African American commercial districts. Attendees will have the opportunity to shop a wide variety of local entrepreneurs and niche retailers that line the streets of Edgewood and Auburn Avenue, while celebrating Sweet Auburn’s legacy of Black entrepreneurship, history, cultural heritage, and community resilience.
Event Purpose:
● Support Local Businesses: This event aims to spotlight small businesses in the Sweet
Auburn area, encouraging attendees to shop locally and invest in the community.
● Promote Economic Empowerment: By showcasing Black-owned businesses, we aim
to promote economic equity, increase awareness, and foster the continued success of
minority entrepreneurs.
● Celebrate History and Culture: The Sweet Auburn Historic District is home to
significant landmarks like the MLK National Historical Park. This event will honor the
cultural and historical importance of the district, blending shopping with education and
community pride.
Event Highlights:
● Curated Shopping Experience: Guests can explore a diverse array of Black-owned
businesses offering everything from fashion, art, and beauty products to home goods,
books, and more.
● Featured Visual Artistry: Local artists, Leisha Starchia and Jeffry St. James has
beautiful visual works throughout the Spark Innovation Lab on exhibit infusing the event
with vibrancy and celebrating the district's creativity.
