Thank you for volunteering for the event! Make sure to click the volunteer link to fill out the application for the event. All volunteers must register online individually by Friday, October 4, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

Race week confirmation email

All volunteers will receive a race week confirmation email with the following details: assignment and shift time, check-in location, transportation recommendations, preparation tips and more. 

Grant Park volunteers must present their confirmation email to security to gain entry to Harrison Volunteer Compound.

Volunteer policies

To help make this year’s race a successful and positive experience for everyone, the Chicago Marathon expects volunteers to abide by the volunteer policies and note:
They require all group volunteers to be 14 years of age or older on the day of the event and accompanying minors are not permitted.


Volunteers are discouraged from bringing bags or other personal belongings to the event. Gear check will be required for belongings that cannot be carried in a volunteer’s pockets, including personal bags, purses, backpacks or similar items. Please note that items larger than a standard backpack will not be permitted in the volunteer gear check.

Join UIU Chicago in being involved in one of Chicago's civic treasures: The 2024 Chicago Marathon! Take advantage of a volunteering opportunity of being involved with the racers as they finish the 26.2 mile race and keeping beautiful Grant Park clean after the race.

This is a hands-on position and requires outgoing volunteers energized to make a difference! Volunteers will assist runners at the Post-Race Party and help recycle/compost specific products distributed by the event such as water bottles, Gatorade cups, banana peels and food. All volunteers get Chicago Marathon swag at the end!

About: By volunteering we keep the city we love clean while also forming connection with racers from all over the world who participated in this event, promoting the strength of diversity in the community.

Location: Grant Park: Harrison Volunteer Compound, 331 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL, 60601

Harrison Volunteer Compound is located in Grant Park just east of the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Harrison Street. Volunteers must enter via the Harrison Street Bridge from Michigan Avenue. This is the only entrance point for volunteers.

Grant Park volunteers must present their confirmation email to security to gain entry to Harrison Volunteer Compound.

Getting to the Location: You can carpool if available but Uber or Train will be the best way to get there.

Volunteer Uniform: At check-in, you will receive a complimentary jacket, hat and credential. All three of the provided items must be visible at all times throughout your volunteer shift.
