PinexGinja, the event collective renowned for its dedication to bringing together the African Diaspora, proudly presents its second pop-up exhibition in the vibrant city of Chicago on July 22. Started in 2018, PinexGinja has grown from a Jamaican-inspired event in Ghana to a worldwide offering that uses Jamaican, Caribbean and West African musical culture to bring the Diaspora together. This captivating event, titled We De Ya II: Legends. Echoes of Dancehall: An Artistic Homage promises to be an immersive experience, celebrating the artistic prowess of iconic musicians from Jamaica and Ghana.

 

"We De Ya, which means We Are Here, will allow our patrons to step into an extraordinary artistic show that stands as a profound promise to the vibrant community of African descent in Chicago. This captivating exhibit reverberates with the significance of celebrating their revered icons, envisaging a powerful portrayal of their presence within this immersive space.

Curated by talented artists —Chicago-based Ben (FemiOlart) Kayede and Accra-based Anthony B. Adeaba— "We De Ya II: Legends" transports attendees into a world where six Jamaican and Ghanaian- Bob Marley, Lady Saw, Stonebwoy, Ebony, Shabba Ranks and Vybz Kartel- musical titans come to life against the backdrop of iconic landmarks across the African Diaspora. Through the artistic fusion of various media forms, including multi and mixed media art, PinexGinja invites visitors to witness these beloved legends in a new light, transcending the boundaries of time and place.

The exhibition not only showcases the artistic brilliance of these musical luminaries but also aligns with the core philosophy of PinexGinja – the unification of the African Diaspora through cultural connections. By imaginatively situating these influential figures, whose works have been deeply inspired by African cultural traditions, in different parts of the Diaspora, PinexGinja invites attendees to embark on a transformative journey of cultural exploration and appreciation.

Through this visionary presentation, PinexGinja seeks to create an emotional bond, allowing attendees to connect with the legends on a profound level. The exhibition symbolizes the triumph of art over the limitations of technology and cost, enabling the legends to be present in spirit and essence, thereby strengthening the bonds that unite the African Diaspora.
