Black artists are uniquely positioned to use their work to paint a fuller, more complete picture of history through public art and sculpture. Participating in Salon Talk will be Associate Professor of African American Studies at Columbia College Chicago Robert Hanserd, Artist and Activist Dwight White and nationally renowned artist Gerald Griffin who has created a series of sculptures of President Barack Obama, Vice President Kamala Harris and abolitionist Frederick Douglass that he proposes be made into monuments to present a more complete picture of history here and across the country. The dinner event will be from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Black Fine Art Month™ (BFAM) is a celebration of the Black Art aesthetic, an annual recognition of artists, innovators, collectors, curators and those vested in the Black Art tradition, and an opportunity to commemorate these contributions throughart programming. The celebration affords us a moment to toast the bold gallerists and esteemed art purveyors who revere the aesthetic, drive the value; and invest in artists who are making a cultural impact.
