The Chicago African Summit & Community Resource Fair is the premiere forum of its kind in the Midwest with a special focus on contemporary African diaspora issues, public policy advocacy and community empowerment. It brings together scholars, legislators, community activists, policy analysts and students, and individuals like you, to engage in constructive dialogue about the African Diaspora.

This year's Summit will feature three panels, one in the morning and two concurrent panels after lunch.
Morning Panel: Being African in the Diaspora
Panelists will explore what it means to be an African immigrant in the Diaspora and how it shapes their understandings of identity, community engagement, including issues around immigration/migration, economic empowerment, civic participation, and more.
Afternoon Panel 1: Faith and Community in the Diaspora
Panelists will explore how faith/religion within the African Diaspora shapes experiences and influences understandings of identity, community, and purpose, including how faith based groups/individuals engage in the fight for social and racial justice.
Afternoon Panel 2: Women of the Diaspora
Panelists will explore their experiences as women of the African Diaspora and influences on their understandings of identity, community, and family, including women as political, economic, cultural, and religious actors.
The Summit will also feature a screening of "Caged Dreams", which highlights the issue of trauma in U.S. immigration detention and incarceration, followed by a Q&A session with Director Johannes Favi, Deputy Director of Illinois Community for Displaced Immigrants (ICDI).
The Community Resource Fair will spotlight several key organizations and resources in the Chicago area.
