Join us for a virtual Black History Month Program with Afia Zakiya, Executive Director of AfricaTown Heritage Preservation Foundation for a conversation on Free Black Towns and Settlements in Alabama: The story of AfricaTown.
Many have seen the documentary on Netflix Descendant that follows descendants of the survivors from the Clotilda, the last ship that carried enslaved Africans to the United States as they reclaim their story. This documentary is about AfricaTown.
Afia will join us and take a deep dive into the history of AfricaTown and share with ua the work she is currently doing as the Executive Director of the AfricaTown Heritage Preservation Foundation.
