Funding Diversity Post Affirmative Action
Join founders and funders at Workbox River North for a lively breakfast panel discussion on investing in diversity post Affirmative Action. An official HYPE Week!™ event.
In the wake of the George Floyd murder in 2020, countless funds committed to investing more into underrepresented founders. However, since Affirmative Action was repealed by SCOTUS, there have been a wave of lawsuits against DEI policies. The venture capital firm Fearless Fund is being sued because of their directive to invest solely in Black women founders.
What does this mean for the future of investing in startups? How does this change a startup's approach?
Prepare for a powerful discussion featuring Stella Ashalou from Fifth Star Funds, Brooke McKean from REACH, Luisa Castellanos from Science On Call, and others, moderated by DEI facilitator Cindu Thomas-George. You'll hear from specific unique voices:
-The founder who represents a minoritized group building a DEI-themed product
-The founder who represents a minoritized group and NOT building a DEI-themed product
-The investor with a thesis of funding minoritized groups
-The investor without a thesis of funding minoritized groups
with a goal of understanding what role does each unique voice play in the startup ecosystem as it relates to diversity now that the rules are changing.
