Event Details
The Black Art Speaks virtual lecture series is aimed at exploring the rich contributions of African American artists. The inaugural lecture will be presented by renowned scholar Karen Comer Lowe, an Atlanta-based curator, educator, and art advisor, and currently a curator in residence at Spelman College Museum of Fine Art. Ms. Lowe has a passion for the arts and over twenty years of experience in museums, galleries, and arts institutions. She has worked in directorial, curatorial, and educational positions in institutions such as the Smithsonian Institution's National Portrait Gallery, the Tubman Museum of African American Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. This will be an excellent opportunity to gain an understanding of the cultural significance of several lesser known African American women artists and become introduced to the
art market as it relates to their artist practice.
The lecture is open to anyone interested in learning more about the contributions made
by African American women artists to the art world.

Admission is $20 (plus service fees and taxes) to support
the speaker's honorarium and event costs.
