In celebration of the opening of our new Bronzeville campus, join ITAV LA for an exciting collaboration with Lifting As They Climbed Tour where we will explore the profound connection between history, arts, and activism that is deeply rooted in Chicago. Throughout the city’s history, the creative brilliance of Black women’s artistry has intersected with the impact of their political strategy to generate community transformation. In this tour, you will chart the lives of women who used their skills to create portals of change for the city and nation.

Many of the artists on the tour, like Mahalia Jackson and Katherine Dunham, were pushing against racial barriers in their respective fields while using their art to highlight issues of civil rights and social justice. In tandem, Black women activists like Ida B. Wells and Addie Wyatt were engaged in innovative tactics to garner resources, support, and awareness of ongoing injustices. Using words, dance, music, and collective force, these activists and artists help to shape many Chicago neighborhoods.

Through this tour, walk in the shoes of the women who moved the city and nation forward in unique and beautiful ways.

Tickets are non-refundable. All proceeds will go to support the ITAVLA Athletic Program.
