As an extension of our Community Zine Archive: RCHVL, we are hosting a series of artist talks to spotlight each artist and facilitate conversations about their work and their contribution to our ever-growing community zine archive. Each artist talk event is programmed by the artist and a true reflection of their personal creative practices. We encourage everyone to engage fully in the conversations and activites and to support local, independant artist of color as they delve deeper into the creative industry.

Wuraola Adeniji is a Multidisciplinary Designer and producer from Chicago. Her work explores her experiences from growing up in Nigeria and the complexities of life there. In this talk she will talk about her experience with using fashion as her main medium and talk about her recent collection “Fada’s house” inspired by her childhood living room space and her parents interior design aesthetics. She will also be talking about her most recent film project Adeori and how that collection inspired her to tap more into her upbringing in her works.

Awolalu is a newly emerged designer and artist from the Southside of Chicago. Using most of his inspiration for his clothing and other art from nature and African spirituality, he uses his clothing brand Earth Lay Green, and his writing, to share and shift perspective on emotional wellness, the importance of faith and acknowledgment in spiritual practices, and expressing and advocating the need for true sustainable community amongst black men, black women, and black children.
