Join us Weekly on Mondays for Shekere Fundamentals Led by Uche Omoniyi and Quincy Raggs. All levels are welcome, and programming is FREE and open to the public!
Shekere Fundamentals is a FREE pilot program that aims to celebrate the West African gourd instrument that is used in traditional and popular music across West Africa and the African diaspora. This 8-week program will introduce participants to the history and cultural importance of the shekere, which is also known as chekere and agbe. Led by Uche Omoniyi and Quincy Raggs, this program will help to build fundamental skills related to playing the instrument in various performance contexts.
We’re proud to continue partnering with Honeycomb Network to bring this kind of programming to the West Side. We have 10-15 shekeres available, but please bring your own, if possible. We hope to see you every Monday from 6:30 - 8:00 pm starting March 3 and ending April 21.
