Event Details

Taste of Black Spirits” launched in May 2021, as a first of its kind event in Michigan and (surrounding states ) featuring all Black owned Beer, Wine & Spirit brands from across the USA.

Underrepresentation and a lack of diversity has long been an issue in the spirits industry. Only a handful of American distilleries are Black-owned or Black-run. Access to capital, representation and distribution is currently a challenge. Many consumers are unaware of Black owned spirit companies and their products. We give our audiences unique, high quality, experiences that consumers can not only sample products, but also meet the founders of these brands. Attendees learn about the history and viability of African Americans in the spirits industry.

Black Owned Spirits have always been in the spirits world. We come from excellence. It's important to know the history of master distiller, Nearest Green, pre-Prohibition era bartender, Tom Bullock, or today's trailblazer, Vanessa Braxton, First African American Woman Master Distiller and 100% Distill owner. Creating more awareness and access is important to us. Being intentional about where we spend our money and creating generational wealth in Black communities is important to us. Supporting black entrepreneurs drives us. Legacy drives us, past, present and future. Black Spirits Legacy will make history, not competitively, but collectively, because doing so will make a global impact.

After formally introducing the first ever Taste of Black Spirits showcase in Detroit Michigan @Yumvillage Afro-Caribbean Eats in May 2021, -LAZAR Favors and his team has successfully curated 5 follow up TBS EVENTS including an annual Taste of Black Spirits-Black History month event. Taste of Black Spirits is the fastest growing Spirit Experience in the mid-west. TBS has featured more than 70 brands. In 2 years, this event will expand to 10 cities across the U.S.
